Mark Lee - formerly Chief Financial Officer of Deep Green - is the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer. With Deep Green’s next sites getting the green light at Move Urmston in Manchester and the LNER Community Stadium in York, Mark’s decades of experience running large, global businesses will be put to good use as the business transitions from a start-up to scaling enterprise. Mark Bjornsgaard, founder and former CEO, continues to spearhead US expansion and innovative heat reuse strategy as Chief Innovation Officer.

In 2024, Octopus Energy Generation backed the business with a £200m investment. This transition reflects the continued evolution of Deep Green as it adds larger district heating networks and industrial offtakers to its growing portfolio of smaller pool sites.

Deep Green, known for its recycling of heat from its data centre estate and wider environmental and sustainable credentials, will continue to focus on unlocking the economic benefits of heat reuse and their positive environmental and societal impact.

Mark Lee says “Having been with the business since inception, I’m delighted to be tasked with guiding Deep Green through its next phase of growth. As we build our first major pool sites and focus on our pipeline of district heat networks and industrial offtakers, I am excited by the challenge and opportunity that Deep Green has to shape the evolution of the data centre industry and the heat landscape in the UK and globally ”

Mark Bjornsgaard says “With sales and channel partnerships now in place and with our first sites cleared by planning, Deep Green is ready to scale. It has been a wild ride getting the business to this stage and having worked with Mark Lee for decades I know the business is in safe hands. I’m looking forward to focusing on innovation, as well as the US expansion, which is key to our overall strategy”.
